“A Leopard can not change its spots”
A clichéd quote, fabricated in times of old, painted with full conviction,
Passed on through generations, and to young ones told.
But thorough those perception can such a proclamation be concluded?
Is this tag derived from ones countenance and attitude or is it the product of on looker’s opinion?
An opinion of sorts, of one regarding another.
Yet does that permit one to magistrate above the other? To adjudicate? Or critique?
Duration of time once passed on, has claimed a many heart, mind or song.
One can suppress their innermost attitudes, their essence of emotion.
How therefore can justice be found in so predictable a statement?
Granted, truth can be heard in change that is good.
Hence, metamorphosis of character is constructible,
Allowing spots to become stripes as they are closely entangled,
Forming a blur of ones persona.
Love it Lauren. Your contrasting between when what people feel about certain ones who are always the same to those who can change and have made a change. But instantly they are up against a huge challenge because people follow the saying a leopard can't change its spots. Very thoguht provoking and interesting! We all look forward to your next =D

Lauren... What can I say but yet another? I reflect Gio's sentiments as it is thought-provoking; it gets the cogs turning. It's the questions. Keep asking them because in my head I enjoy trying to answer them.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you make a deep subject flow so easily it seems effortless.
It's got me thinking on 'can a leopard change it's spots?'. In processing this question, my mind gives me two answers: no and yes. 'No' first because technically, unless a leopard can alter it's own DNA, the spots won't change. But we're not talking science here. So I'm taken to 'yes'. If a Leopard believes that it has stripes, it will act as such. Metaphoric for us. I feel that sometimes, the traits and personality we have will always be there but it doesn't mean to say we can't change. But it's down to our perspective and our will-power. If we want to change, we will act as such.
This is a small snippet of how my thoughts flowed after reading Stripes and Spots. So if that is what you were trying to get across - you did it perfectly. If not, I will re-assess my thoughts!
Thank you Lauren. TJ
