An assembly of people float around their compass, an expanse they call their own.
Doors exclusive, forbidding all but one key. One key essential as a portal to that world,
A secret solution of no physical substance.
Once admission is gained through so great a struggle, the doors swing open.
Glory........Honour......Prestige........all awarded to the sight, a divine display, for so fine a night.
Persons numerous, uncountable and disguised, flutter around with the deepest twinkle of an eye.
Masks adorn all those in sight, prepared they are to illuminate tonight.
But as the mature sun declines to further an invitation to this distinguished event,
And sets off toward the west, the glitter no longer glamorises their masks,
As illuminators they are no longer manifest.
The distinct emotionless panel of a face no longer even hints happiness.
All such innocence of joy and fun of the day have disappeared into the long lost night.
As the moon drops by with his stars in the sky, to proclaim a message so clear, “The night goes on”,
He whisks them away, some peoples masks fall astray, as there’s no point having them on.
So now the Masquerade ball is not as glamorous as it once seemed.
Wow Lauren is that how your going on really? lol I think your piece is superb. Top stuff going on. Your message strong, its excellent use of a long running metaphor to portray this and your writing style develops a stealthy rhyming pattern that has you before you realise it. Great addition thoroughly impressed!!
ReplyDeleteLauren, would you care to enlighten us as to what inspired you to write this piece? We would be really interested. Also, I agree with the above, love the imagery that you have got going on with this one.
ReplyDeleteThanks. When I write my poetry, I often pick a word which although may be straight forward, has more then one perspective. The inspirational word I used for this poem isn't actually in my poem, its was deception. After I chose my word, I just let my mind do all the work and used a little imagination. But I suppose that my inspiration was also taken from observation of regular events as well.
